Today Kim and I spent the day together. The kids were all busy today and my body was in quite a flare up due to all the festivities of this past week! We worked together to clean up the house and then went to the store to get more bath salts to help me with my pain.
As we were driving to the store my pain was bad and I tried really hard to hide it from my hubby so that he would not make me go back home and rest. Tears were welling up in my eyes as we were driving, and my hubby asked me why I was crying. I told him defensively, "I am not crying it is just the heater vents drying my eyes out, making my eyes water." We both laughed which made my tears begin to disappear and got my mind off my pain, Because earlier that day on the way to my chiropractor appt. his eyes were watering, I asked why, and he told me the heater vents were drying his eyes out making them water.
Laughter is truly the best medicine when you are in pain. Although it hurts my lungs even worse when I laugh the benefits I get from being happy and laughing far out-weigh the pain.
Once we were at the store and we got what we needed I told him I wanted to find something to do with my hands during my painful flare-ups. A thought came to my mind that in order to get your mind off of your own pain and struggles, loose yourself in service! Although I can't do grand and huge service oriented events, I can do something for somebody. I remember hearing that it is not the size of the service that counts its the just simply doing what you can do for somebody.
I knew I needed find something that I COULD DO for someone else. I decided to find a pattern for the scarves the girls seem to love. I wanted to make them for my daughters and grand-daughter. My Grandma Rhea loved to crochet and she taught me the skill. I decided to find a pattern, get some yarn and start crocheting away.
This helped me not to think of the pain I was in, but instead think of how I can serve someone else on a day when I thought it was not possible to serve due to my illness!
The Savior taught us to serve in anyway that we could, he taught us to love others and showed us that is was the simple acts of service that can make all the difference!
This video is the cutest thing and really helps you to see that the smallest acts of service can make the biggest difference!
