Swallowing my Pride in the Safari

Today we decided to visit the San Diego Safari Animal Park. Little did I know that my family had made plans behind my back about how I was going to make it through the park. For me I figured I would go as far as I could go and then see how far that would take me. But they had already decided to rent me a electric wheel chair at the park.

I was very hesitant at first and because of my stubborn pride I told them no way and that I would be fine! I felt so embarrassed because I am only 45 years old and the only other people in wheel chars were old! I guess I am getting older but in my mind I don't feel old! My family insisted that I get one and told me they would not take no for an answer! I tried every way to get out of it but deep down I knew that I probably would not make it very far on my own two feet!

After about 10 minutes into the park and seeing all of the small hills I would have had to climb in the park I realized how grateful I was for my families persistence in this matter. I don't know why it is so hard for me to admit that I can't walk through such a simple thing as a park. I had to realize today that it is better for me to be with my family in a wheelchair then have to sit at home and miss out on all the fun… Or I would have pushed myself to walk the park and then be down for a couple days and have to miss out on the fun because of the flare I would have been in.

Later tonight I thanked my family for helping me once again realize what I can and can not do! I had a great time and actually out-lasted my family! After a few hours they were exhausted and wanted to go home and I still had some energy left thanks to the shaded electric wheelchair!

The wheelchair that saved me today!

Riding it with Landee was the best!

We had such a fun time today but could only stay about 3 hours. It was a very fun but exhausting day! I was glad I swallowed my pride today and got in a wheelchair and was able to enjoy myself much more not having to worry about lung pain and breathing problems! So thankful for a wonderful family who reminds me of my limits when I really need it!
