Our Prophet Thomas S. Monson, His Chocolates, and Tender Mercies!

My husband just called me from work today. He works Professional Operations for the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints. He basically is security for all the church owned properties in Salt Lake and Utah County. He is mainly based up at Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

He told me that today he was stationed inside the Salt Lake Temple. He was keeping the hallway secure for the the Apostles, and First Presidency who meet in the temple on Thursdays. Due to their busy schedules they usually just hustle by with a small nod or wave as they pass by security. But today was different.  Today was a day my hubby and I will remember for a very long time.

As my husband was keeping the hallway secure he was visiting with a temple worker dressed in white. My husband then saw President Thomas Monson in a wheelchair being pushed down the hall by his personal protection body guard. Pres Monson said quietly "stop here", the body guard continued to not slow down, Pres Monsons then said a little louder, "Stop Here", still the body guard did not comply with his demands. So President Monson said in a very, very loud voice, "CAN YOU NOT HEAR ME,  I SAID I WANT TO STOP HERE!" My husband said he then offered a chocolate to both my husband and a temple worker and told them to enjoy their treat. He then turned to my husband and said "I think you wife would really enjoy one of these," to which my husband said "Oh yes President, she definitely would!"

As my husband was telling me this story tears were welling up in my eyes because I felt as if the Lord was sending both of us a tender mercy today. I have been flaring quite a bit due to all the high pressure storms rolling in and today was a pretty rough one for me. I was laying down resting trying to recover from my pain and fatigue when I received the call from my hubby! I was so touched to know that the Lord does know each and everyone of us and speaks through others, especially his prophet, to know what we need at the very moment when we seem to be struggling the most.

My husband also needed this today. He needed to know just how much he is loved and appreciated for the job he is doing, as just two days ago he received news that he was not able to obtain a new position that he applied for at his work. Although President Monson would not have known that my husband had not received this promotion, I know the spirit spoke thorough him to let my husband know just how much he is valued and needed at his current position!

My husband and I decided we won't eat the chocolates that President Monson gave to us today, but instead we will keep them as a reminder of the day we both received a little tender mercy from the Lord when we needed it most!  Just knowing how much others care truly and something so simple as a chocolate can really lighten and make  your day!

I am so thankful for a prophet who not only loves the Lord but also loves each one of us individually just as our Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ do.
