If We Do Our Part.... He Can Do His...

This past month I seemed to have found myself behind on this blog, well there is a very good reason for this! I would say that I have not been busier than normal, but instead I have found myself immersed in family history work. I have found such blessings in my life the more I do this great work. I have found strength and have had more pain-free days in regards to my health! and have seen blessing pour down upon my own family!

Never could I have imagined just how much serving others could help me get through dealing with this disease. I set a goal about 8 months ago that each Tuesday I would go to the family history center to learn how to search, find, and read Danish records for my ancestors from the 1600, 1700, and 1800's.

Not only have I found many of my family members original records, found missing family members  and have learned to read Danish a bit, I have ultimately realized just how many blessings are poured down upon me, my health, and my family when I trust in the Lord and do his work.

There have been many Monday evenings when I thought there was no way I would be able to do Family History in the morning due to the huge flare I was in. My family would even tell me that I would not be able to go the next morning.

But waking up Tuesday morning there have been many times the flare was gone by the time I left for the Family HIstory center. Sometimes if I still was in pain I would pray and ask for help to be able to go and do this work.  As I did this and trusted in my Father in Heaven, I found him blessing me with increased strength and always decreased pain.

I can truly testify of the reality of serving others, whether it be for people that are living or have past on. It does not matter, because serving others is as if you are serving our Father in Heaven. As we do our part HE can do His!

Here is a Family History video that will inspire you and your family!  We watched it for Family Night. After the movie my family had many questions about their ancestors.... and boy was I ready to show them all the stuff that I had found! I tell you once you start your Family History...You cant stop! It is so much fun and very rewarding!

Why do we have Adversity?

I had the opportunity to teach another lesson in Laurels yesterday. As I prepared all week, I had the distinct impression to teach on Why we have adversity?

I began with this quote:

“Different kinds of adversity require different responses. For example, if you are stricken with illness, you may simply need to be patient and faithful. If you suffer because of others’ words or actions, you should work toward forgiving those who have offended you. If you are a victim of abuse, you should seek help immediately. If trials come because of your own disobedience, you should correct your behavior and humbly seek forgiveness.”     (True to the Faith book)

During the lesson we shared experiences, quotes, and the reason why the Lord must have us go through these trials and the blessings that come from them. Trials help us grow into the person the Lord wants us to become. Without these trials we would never be able to grow spiritually and be a strength to others.

We also talked about how we can be strengthened and lifted up by our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ to make it through whatever we must face in this life. As we trust in him, show faith, and endure it cheerfully and with patience he will bless and strengthen us more than we could ever imagine!

I am so thankful to be able to share my own trials and adversity with these amazing young women and hope that they can realize that they too can make it through whatever adversity they are faced with in this life.

I am humbled at the opportunity I have been given to inspire others and to help them to not get discouraged or give up when things get too hard to bare, but instead submit willfully and cheerfully to the will of the Lord.  If we do He will guide us, strengthen us and help us become stronger than we ever thought possible!

To end the lesson I shared this quote  and the video below: God will Lift Us Up.

Our Heavenly Father, who gives us so much to delight in, also knows that we learn and grow and become stronger as we face and survive the trials through which we must pass. We know that there are times when we will experience heartbreaking sorrow, when we will grieve, and when we may be tested to our limits. However, such difficulties allow us to change for the better, to rebuild our lives in the way our Heavenly Father teaches us, and to become something different from what we were—better than we were, more understanding than we were, more empathetic than we were, with stronger testimonies than we had before.”                                                                      President Monson

I am so thankful for the opportunity I have to serve these young women in class. I am also thankful of the blessing of serving my ancestors through family history! I know beyond I shadow of a doubt that as I serve others it helps me not focus on my pain and suffering but instead on others!
I feel so many blessing from the Lord as I serve in the way He wants me to!

I have to say I am truly thankful for my own trials and especially how I have grown and become a better persons because of them. I know the Lord does not leave me alone to deal with this illness, but instead he is always by my side to comfort and lift me up whenever I need Him.
I am so grateful for the person I have become because of this trial and know that I can make it through hard things with the help of the Lord always by my side!

Niah & Sammy and the Sweethearts Dance!

Yesterday on Valentines day Shaniah went with her best friend and their dates to their highschool sweethearts dance! It has been so much fun helping these two get ready for this dance. From dress, jewelry, and shoe shopping to hair, makeup, and planning the date, I have enjoyed helping these two crazy girls prepare. They asked two of their guy friends who are best friends just like them. It was so fun watching them two just have so much fun!

In the morning they went to the race track to race go carts, then out to brunch. Then they came back to get ready for dinner and the dance. Once they were all ready they asked me to take pictures before leaving with their dates.

It was so fun being apart of this with my daughter! There is nothing better than the mother-daughter bonding that happens as you have as much fun as they do when getting ready for her dances!

After the dance they all came back to our house to eat dessert, go hot tubbing, and watch a movie! What  a fun day for these girls! In fact they told me this was the best dance they have been to yet!

Here are a few of my favorite pics that I took for them:

Roots Tech 2015…SO AWESOME!

My mom and I spent the entire day  in Salt Lake City at the Roots Tech Family History conference today. This was are first time ever attending this three day event. I could not believe that there were over 21,000 people in attendance. People came from all over the world both member and non-members to learn the latest and greatest technologies that are advancing this work at such a phenomenal pace.

I learned so much today and by the last class I was completely starting to tank. I was so grateful that my prayers were answered and I was able to stay as long as I did. Going home an hour early was really not a big deal at all. I knew I would not be able to go to three days of this conference but was very happy to find out several of the classes would be posted online to listen to in the comfort of my own home.

I have posted the link below if you would like to learn some amazing things about how to research your ancestors.

Roots Tech Video Archive 2015

Since October of 2014, I have been working on my own family history. It started out one day a week at the family history center in Riverton, where we meet with an elderly missionary  who has taught us a great deal of how to research and find many Danish records.

Currently, I am working on it two days a week and some weeks even more depending on my health and the weather….. As the storms seem to really cause me to flare up, but nonetheless I seem to find time to work on it throughout the day even if I am having a bad pain day. It seems to take my mind off the pain and helps me to focus on what matters most.

My mom and I thought our family history was done, because we were told certain aunts or cousins had worked on it and completed it! BOY WE WERE WRONG!. We have found so many errors and have discovered we have years and years of work that needs to be done. We have found with the internet so many different ways to find original records than ever before.

It is amazing what technology has brought to help us discover our ancestors. Not only do we have FamilySearch.com as an amazing tool to help us link to our ancestors. But also MyHeritage.com, who by the way is currently working on indexing all the Scandinavian records  and will be online in the next few years. At Roots tech they said that by the end of 2015 they will have all the Parrish records of Denmark indexed and uploaded to their site. That is a massive collection!

I was so excited for this news as we currently look through a website called AOFORSIDE to be able to search in Danish the Church Parrish records. It is a very tedious process and sometimes very difficult to read the handwriting of the priest. Having these valuable records online through MYHeritage.com will be amazing!

Mypast.com and Ancestry.com are two more sites that offer many records that have been uploaded for our use. All four of these sites are amazing resources and I am so thankful  that I have access for free to all four of them.

Usually the yearly fee for Ancestry, MyPast and My Heritage is around $200 for each site. But if you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you are able to access all four of them using your church ID number through Family Search. I am so thankful for these sites as sometimes as you need each one to help in your research.

Each site has different search capabilities and different record collections. So sometimes when you don't find what your looking for on one site you will find it on another.

I am so thankful  for the technology and what it has meant to further the work of our ancestor and I am also so humbled at the opportunity I have been given to work on my family who have past on!

Stand Up For Something, Even if it Means Standing Alone

Today is a day I will always remember and be grateful for what we learned.

My daughter who is a junior in high school asked me about a week ago if she could go to a concert with some of her good friends. I continued to ask many questions about what type of music would be played to what type of environment she would be in. She told me she was not sure and would ask her friends who had been before.

Shaniah did ask her friends, and I even talked with them both about it. After what they said I felt that this should be okay for her to go to. However, I have to admit as the concert grew closer I felt more uneasy about it. In fact, I took her and her friend shopping today and asked even more questions about the concert even to the point that my daughter was not happy with me and telling me I was too over-protective and to quit asking too many silly questions.

Well as night came and my daughter was getting ready for the concert I told her that she had to be home by her curfew. She told me she would be and she quickly hugged me goodbye and tried to rush out the door. In the door way I grabbed her by the shoulders and felt the strongest feeling to say to her, "Shaniah if at any time you don't feel comfortable or things are not as you expected them to be, please call me and I will come get you, NO questions asked"! After I said this I felt relieved and just prayed that my daughter would make good decisions and that they would be safe.

I was just settling down into my bed with my pajamas on when I got a text from her, it was about 10 minutes into the concert. All it said was, "Will you please come get me?" I quickly and quietly tried not to panic as I called her to see if she was okay. As she picked up, I was so relieved that she was okay. I asked what had happened and all she said was that she had a very bad feeling about it and just wanted to come home. She told me she was in the lobby of the place and would wait for me there.  I asked what her friends were doing and she told me they were staying at the concert.

I swear I could not get out of the house fast enough and my hubby came with. We were flying down the freeway as I felt as if I was in slow motion trying to get to my little girl before anything bad happened. I prayed hard for her protection and was so grateful when we finally were able to have her in our possession again.

As we talk to her on the way home she explained that is wasn't the music that was bad, but instead it was the environment. She told us there was security all over but that they weren't doing anything about the people smoking and exhaling drugs of all kinds. She told us she could barely breathe and was not going to be in that type of environment. She told her friends she was leaving and walked out. They followed her and stayed with her in the lobby until we got there. She told us that she was very scared the entire time and even had tears in her eyes when she was walking out of the place.

On the drive home I felt such a gratitude for her safety and protection but also for her willingness to stand up for something even if that meant she had to stand alone. I know it was not easy for her to leave her friends and face begin ridiculed by them. She has such a strong spirt and a great example of courage. She is truly one of a kind and although she is only 16 years old she displayed tonight her commitment to the Lord and her willingness to be obedient and to stand up for what she knows to be right!

She knew what was wrong and right and I was so thankful that she listened to the spirt. As a mother your only hope is that your child will listen to the spirit warn her and then feel comfortable enough to call and ask for help when they need it.  Tonight I was also so thankful I listened to the spirit prompt me to remind her just as she walked out the door to call me and I would come get her no matter what!

As we were talking she told us that she even asked her friends if they really felt good about this place... to which her friend said, "Yes, its not that bad." This reminded me how Satan is masking evil and making it look good and so enticing to our youth. It made me think how its like a wolf in sheep's clothing. As we spoke with our daughter on the way home she expressed her concern for so many friends at school and how so many kids think its okay to use these new designer drugs that are sold at local gas stations. My husband works around this in law enforcement  and he explained a great deal to both of us. My daughter than explained to both of us why she liked to stay home a lot of the time,  she said she would rather stay home and be safe than be put in situations like this again.

Today I am so grateful to our Father in Heaven who hears and answers prayers, who protects our children, and allows the Holy Ghost to guide and direct them when they need it most.  I am so thankful for the gift of the Holy Ghost  that was given to each of our children when they were baptized.

I know that Shaniah will never forget this experience.  I hope this will always be a reminder  for her of the importance of making right choices and having the courage to stand up for what is right even it that means you have to stand alone! I love her so much and am so grateful for this opportunity she had to learn and grow from today!

Happy 25th BIrthday C'Jay

Happy Birthday goes out to my oldest son C'Jay! I can't believe he is 25 years old today! It seems like just yesterday I was bringing him home from the hospital.

I am so thankful for his compassionate and caring young man he has become. He is such a hard worker and is always so willing to help me with whatever I need. He is such an adventure seeker. He loves the outdoors and loves to spend most of his free time hunting, fishing, boating, or finding something adventurous to do!

He is out of town this week working in California, so I decided to make him a short video to show him how much I love and care about him. These pictures describe him perfectly as he is always out to have a good time. Plus he is definitely the one who always keeps ups laughing even when times are tough!

JUST A FUN DAY!!!

What do you do with a one year old who is extremely fussy and needs a huge distraction???

You take her to Cabelas of course!

Today we took Ireland to Cabelas to feed the fish and see all the animals. What a fun day it was for Ireland. She was not fussy at all and the distractions were great for her! I had so much fun taking pictures of this cutie with all the animals!

Grandpa and Ireland watched and fed the fish
Ireland loved making the animal sounds when she saw  bucks, elk, moose, and bears!
Kaylee, her mommy loved just getting out
Ireland & Grandma in front of the African animal scene. She was very perplexed as to why the animals were so still and not moving! haha!

Later this afternoon Shaniah was in the spirit bowl assembly at school. She was asked to do a dance in front of the entire school. She was very excited but nervous as she is not a dancer, but she was willing to go out and have fun to try and gain points for the junior class.

She had practiced all week and was laughing so hard just thinking about the dance. The theme for the spirit assembly was Star Wars and the juniors had to dress like wookies and create a dance around that character. Shaniah had a blast dancing and asked me come to video and take pictures. It was all worth it in the end when after all the hard work the juniors won. It was the first time ever that another class other than the seniors had won.
Shaniah just having a great time….dancing...

It's not about what you WIN but how you FINISH!

Shaniah competed in her region meet and did a great job. I was so proud of how hard she worked this season. She practiced 3-4 hours each day swimming and doing dry land workouts. She was utterly exhausted on some days and did not even have enough energy to do any thing fun but go straight to bed to just start the entire routine the next day. Her life these past few months have been workout, workout, and workout. I know she is so thankful her swim season is over but she is excited and anxious to start lacrosse tomorrow.

I have watched her hardest swimming events become easier and easier as she has turned some of the most difficult ones into her favorites as she has put in the hard work to accomplish her goals.

Over the season she has pulled several muscles and has even recovered from injuries sustained in a car accident. She has not had it easy these past few months by any means but has learned to rely upon the Lord to help her through even her most difficult days.

I have watched her grow stronger physically throughout this season but even more importantly I have witnessed first hand the spiritual growth that has strengthened her and kept her going when even she thought she couldn't! I am strengthened by her commitment and dedication to never give up even when things got tough but instead kept pushing through until she conquered!

Although she did not win any medals or awards of any kind today she did receive something that she will never forget and will carry with her the rest of her life! She knows that "SHE CAN DO HARD THINGS!"   She learned that hard work combined with the help of the Lord can do anything she sets her mind to! She broke all of her personal best times today and was very excited to have finished the 200 IM, her most difficult race by cutting 4 seconds off!

In life…It's not about what you win that matters, but its how you finish that really matters!

Her 200 free relay team that took 6th place overall and there time qualified for state.

A VERY HAPPY GIRL AND PROUD MOM!
