Roots Tech 2015…SO AWESOME!

My mom and I spent the entire day  in Salt Lake City at the Roots Tech Family History conference today. This was are first time ever attending this three day event. I could not believe that there were over 21,000 people in attendance. People came from all over the world both member and non-members to learn the latest and greatest technologies that are advancing this work at such a phenomenal pace.

I learned so much today and by the last class I was completely starting to tank. I was so grateful that my prayers were answered and I was able to stay as long as I did. Going home an hour early was really not a big deal at all. I knew I would not be able to go to three days of this conference but was very happy to find out several of the classes would be posted online to listen to in the comfort of my own home.

I have posted the link below if you would like to learn some amazing things about how to research your ancestors.

Roots Tech Video Archive 2015

Since October of 2014, I have been working on my own family history. It started out one day a week at the family history center in Riverton, where we meet with an elderly missionary  who has taught us a great deal of how to research and find many Danish records.

Currently, I am working on it two days a week and some weeks even more depending on my health and the weather….. As the storms seem to really cause me to flare up, but nonetheless I seem to find time to work on it throughout the day even if I am having a bad pain day. It seems to take my mind off the pain and helps me to focus on what matters most.

My mom and I thought our family history was done, because we were told certain aunts or cousins had worked on it and completed it! BOY WE WERE WRONG!. We have found so many errors and have discovered we have years and years of work that needs to be done. We have found with the internet so many different ways to find original records than ever before.

It is amazing what technology has brought to help us discover our ancestors. Not only do we have FamilySearch.com as an amazing tool to help us link to our ancestors. But also MyHeritage.com, who by the way is currently working on indexing all the Scandinavian records  and will be online in the next few years. At Roots tech they said that by the end of 2015 they will have all the Parrish records of Denmark indexed and uploaded to their site. That is a massive collection!

I was so excited for this news as we currently look through a website called AOFORSIDE to be able to search in Danish the Church Parrish records. It is a very tedious process and sometimes very difficult to read the handwriting of the priest. Having these valuable records online through MYHeritage.com will be amazing!

Mypast.com and Ancestry.com are two more sites that offer many records that have been uploaded for our use. All four of these sites are amazing resources and I am so thankful  that I have access for free to all four of them.

Usually the yearly fee for Ancestry, MyPast and My Heritage is around $200 for each site. But if you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you are able to access all four of them using your church ID number through Family Search. I am so thankful for these sites as sometimes as you need each one to help in your research.

Each site has different search capabilities and different record collections. So sometimes when you don't find what your looking for on one site you will find it on another.

I am so thankful  for the technology and what it has meant to further the work of our ancestor and I am also so humbled at the opportunity I have been given to work on my family who have past on!
