Today we spent the day enjoying time with one another. The boys went ice fishing and us girls stayed home and watched movies and played games. We decided to start a fun New Years tradition today. Since becoming a grandma I have found a great deal of joy in creating new holiday traditions with our growing little family.
When my mother and father-in law lived in Utah they would always make food from a different country each New Years. I really enjoyed this tradition of theres and when they moved to Arizona 7 years ago that tradition ended.
I asked my family what they thought about bringing back that tradition. They all loved the idea and so we thought of every possible type of food: French, Greek, Hawaiian, Italian, Chinese, Australian etc… We then wrote each native cuisine on a slip of paper and placed it in a bowl. We all decided before hand that whatever type of food was picked we would then google recipes and make something from that area of the world. We also agreed that we would have to choose something that no one has ever had before. Islander cuisine was chosen and so we searched and found a recipe for Ahi Tuna Tacos. We made a list of what was needed at the store and send a couple kids to purchase it.
Once we had all the supplies we all split up the different parts of the recipe and enjoyed making this exotic meal together. My son-in-law even found tropical island music to play while we all sat down and shared this meal together.
We had such a fun time trying new things and made some great new memories as we implemented another new family tradition. Everyone loved the food so much and my youngest son even asked me if we could do this every week!!
Today was a great way to Welcome the brand NEW YEAR!
